Last Update: 01/15/2020

An ovarian follicle is a small sac filled with follicular fluid that is found in the ovary and in whose interior is the immature egg. There are many follicles in the ovaries.

During a woman's menstrual cycle, an egg matures. Therefore, the corresponding follicle is broken and the egg is released and is ready to be fertilized.
