One possible reason why women experience dyspareunia is infections caused by fungi, bacteria, or viruses. Therefore, women with vaginal infections, pelvic inflammatory disease (salpingitis, endometritis, etc.), sexually transmitted infections, or genital warts may experience painful intercourse.
