Insulin resistance is a common disorder in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This insulin resistance leads to hyperinsulinism, as the body produces more insulin to compensate for the ineffective insulin function. In this way, the following processes are favored:
- Androgen production.
- Release of LH hormone.
- Decreased synthesis of SHBG.
Therefore, this insulin resistance tends to increase hyperandrogenism in PCOS patients.
