Septic abortion is an infection that occurs in abortions generally caused by poorly trained persons. In contrast, if the gestational loss occurs spontaneously, it rarely causes a septic abortion.
The cause of septic abortion is the presence of fetal or placental tissue parts after performing the procedure and/or using non-sterile materials.
The clinical manifestations and signs of septic abortion usually appear about 1-2 days after the abortion. These symptoms are similar to those of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Thus, the patient may experience chills, fever, increased vaginal discharge, etc.
It is very important to detect a septic abortion in time, as it can lead to serious complications for the woman. However, this type of miscarriage is not common.
