Sperm capacitation is the process that allows the sperm to acquire the ability to fertilize the egg. Therefore, as the sperm travel through the female reproductive system until they reach the fallopian tubes, where the oocyte is located, a series of transformations occur.
Not all the sperm are capacitated at the same time, so those that do it faster will be the ones that fertilize the egg.
