The motile sperm count, commonly known as REM, is performed after capacitation of a semen sample. Based on the results obtained from the MSC, the fertility specialist will indicate the best reproductive option.
For example, if the MSC is less than 1 million motile sperm per mL of ejaculate, the indicated assisted reproductive technique is IVF-ICSI. On the other hand, if the EMR is greater than 3 million sperm, then only artificial insemination (AI) would be necessary.
