When a sperm capacitation of a semen sample is performed in the laboratory, the next step is to analyse it to assess how many motile sperm it contains. This is known as REM or motile sperm count.
Depending on the results obtained from the REM, the fertility specialist will indicate whether it is better to perform artificial insemination (AI) or in vitro fertilisation (IVF), either conventionally or by means of sperm microinjection (ICSI).
