Once the egg is fertilized, it begins a journey through the fallopian tubes to reach the uterus. Therefore, it is essential for the sphincter between the uterus and the tubes relaxes, so that the embryo formed will be able to pass through and implant. The hormone responsible for this relaxation is progesterone, also known as the pregnancy hormone.
Another function of this hormone is to increase the receptivity of the endometrium, favoring embryo implantation and, therefore, pregnancy.
