There are several options for managing an ectopic pregnancy: expectant management, medical treatment, or surgical treatment. When surgery is chosen to resolve the ectopic pregnancy, there are two possible interventions:
- Salpingostomy: allows the affected fallopian tube to be preserved, since only the embryonic tissue is removed.
- Salpingectomy: consists of the removal of the affected fallopian tube.
However, it is important to clarify that, sometimes, the decision to apply one or another technique will be made by the specialist during the intervention, once he sees the state of the tube.
