Teratozoospermia is a seminal alteration characterized by a high percentage of sperm with abnormalities in their shape. The teratozoospermia index will vary depending on the affected areas of the sperm. It's worth noting that it's normal for a man to have only 4% of normal sperm, which means 96% of sperm are amorphous. However, this value is considered normal according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
When abnormalities affect only one area, the teratozoospermia index will be 1. On the other hand, if morphological abnormalities occur in all three main areas of the sperm—the head, neck, and tail—then the teratozoospermia index would be 3.
