Amniocentesis is an invasive prenatal test that involves taking a sample of amniotic fluid through an abdominal puncture. This prenatal test is most commonly performed around the 16th week of gestation.
When the amniotic fluid sample has been taken, it is sent to the laboratory for analysis. This can be done in different ways:
- Prenatal karyotype study.
- QF-PCR.
- Prenatal CGH array.
Depending on the type of analysis of the amniocentesis sample, the results will take more or less time.
