Vaginismus or vaginism can be treated by means of Kegel's exercises, that is, pelvic floor exercises, which work the PC musle or pubococcygeus muscle and other muscles surrounding the vaginal area. Although Kegel's cannot cure vaginismus, these exercises can help relieve the sharp pain felt by many women suffering from this rare sexual dysfunction.
You should follow these steps to do them properly:
- Find the right muscles: Try to push the muscles that you usually use when urinating. Those are your PC muscles.
- Once you have found the right muscles, contract them slowly for 3 seconds and hold them tight. Repeat this 20 times, and then repeat again several times throughout the day. When you master the exercises, try to increase the length of the cycles to 10 seconds.
- When you are ready, try to do Kegel's with your finger in your vagina.
