Although breastfeeding can act as a natural contraceptive, its low reliability (since the return of ovulation is highly variable) makes it advisable to use an additional contraceptive method.
Given the special circumstances of the woman at this stage, the chosen contraceptive method must be safe for her, for the baby, and must not have any negative or adverse effect on breastfeeding.
