Only if it is very clear that no more children are desired can permanent or irreversible contraception be considered. Although reversal is sometimes possible, these techniques should always be regarded as permanent.
This includes tubal ligation (for women) and vasectomy (for men). Both procedures require surgical intervention to block the passage of gametes (eggs or sperm), thereby preventing pregnancy.
