When a woman has irregular periods, she should consult a specialist. He or she will perform a gynecological examination and order a blood test. Sometimes the doctor will also perform a pap smear or even a colposcopy.
Based on all these results, the specialist will determine the cause of the menstrual disturbance. Depending on the reason, the treatment will be one or the other.
