The main change that takes place with the onset of perimenopause is the decrease in estrogen and progesterone levels as a consequence of ovarian aging. However, hormonal alterations are not the only change that occurs. Other changes that women undergo in perimenopause are the following:
- Decreased secretion of eggs.
- Decrease in female fertility.
- Shortening of menstrual cycles.
- Reduction in the amount of testosterone.
