Amniocentesis is a prenatal diagnostic technique that analyzes the amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus to detect some diseases, especially those produced by chromosomal alterations, genetic mutations or alterations of the neural tube.
Pregnant women who must undergo this technique are those who are of advanced age, those who have a history of any hereditary disease or lost pregnancies and those who have obtained a poor result in other previous prenatal tests.
