An extrauterine or ectopic pregnancy occurs when the embryo implants outside the uterus such as in the fallopian tube, in the abdominal cavity, etc. If this happens, the woman will present abnormal symptoms for a pregnancy. Therefore, the specialist will decide to do a determination of the beta hCG hormone as well as a transvaginal ultrasound to confirm a possible ectopic pregnancy.
In addition, other biochemical markers are sometimes studied to help diagnose pregnancy outside the uterus.
