Endometriosis is a disease that can cause infertility in women due to the abnormal growth of endometrial tissue in places outside the uterine cavity, such as the ovaries or fallopian tubes.
When endometrial plaques appear in the fallopian tubes, the tubes become blocked and make it difficult for the egg and sperm to meet. After ovulation, the egg is not able to travel through the tube to the uterus and fertilisation and subsequent implantation of the embryo cannot take place.
