Polycystic ovary syndrome, also known by its acronym PCOS, is a fairly common metabolic disorder in women of reproductive age. PCOS can cause female infertility, as it causes menstrual imbalances and lack of ovulation.
In addition to the presence of numerous ovarian cysts, PCOS is characterized by high levels of estrogens and androgens in the blood and amenorrhea. Furthermore, PCOS is more frequent in women with obesity.
