Thyroid problems, in addition to producing fertility, can also cause damage to foetal development and increase the possibility of miscarriage. It is therefore very important that the endocrinologist monitors the functioning of the thyroid gland throughout pregnancy.
Nevertheless, any thyroid disorder should be treated, even if pregnancy is not being sought. Hyperthyroidism is most commonly treated with antithyroid medication, radioactive iodine or even surgery.
For patients diagnosed with hypothyroidism, the most common treatment is the administration of Eutirox.
