To freeze the eggs, the patient is required to go to a fertility clinic and follow the steps indicated by the doctor:
- She should inject herself hormonal medication in order to stimulate egg maturation.
- In continuation, the Ovum pick-up procedure, a surgery to remove the eggs from the ovaries, will be performed on her.
- The extracted eggs will be frozen by vitrification
Vitrification keeps the oocytes in liquid nitrogen at -320.8°F (-196°C) for an unlimited period of time until the woman decides to have children. At this point, the woman must resort to in vitro fertilization (IVF) with her frozen eggs.
