When a woman with fibroids undergoes fertility treatment, she should know that not all fibroids are removed before beginning reproductive treatment.
In general, the gynecologist will evaluate the type, size, and a number of fibroids. In addition, the specialist will also assess whether or not they affect the cavity of the uterus.
Usually, submucosal fibroids (as well as intramural fibroids that affect the uterine cavity) are usually removed, since they seem to be more clearly related to poorer results in in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles.
On the other hand, the impact on IVF results of intramural fibroids that do not alter the uterine cavity is more questioned, while subserosal fibroids do not seem to have a negative effect.
