Women who are carriers of the Fragile X mutation may have early ovarian failure or reduced ovarian reserve. If these women wish to achieve pregnancy, they will most likely have to resort to in vitro fertilization (IVF) with oocyte donation.
However, on other occasions, Fragile X carriers have good ovarian reserve and it is possible to achieve a pregnancy with their eggs, although IVF with PGD is recommended to avoid transmitting the disease to the offspring.
