GnRH analogues are used during the controlled ovarian stimulation phase of an artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization cycle.
Their effect is to suppress the endogenous hormonal flow between the pituitary gland and the ovaries. This makes it possible to maintain the ovaries in a basal state and to stimulate them in a controlled manner with the administration of gonadotropins.
Some of the commercial names of GnRH analogues are Procrin, Cetrotide, synarel, etc.
