Outline of hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a pathology consisting of a low production of thyroid hormones (T3 and T4). The main cause is a failure in the thyroid gland, which is regulated by the action of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) that is produced by the pituitary gland. In addition, the production of TSH by the pituitary gland is controlled by HRT, another hormone secreted by the hypothalamus.

Therefore, if low levels of thyroid hormones are detected in the body, the pituitary gland will produce a greater amount of TSH in an attempt to get the thyroid gland to produce more hormones.
