Cryptozoospermia, also known as cryptospermia, is a sperm disorder that refers to a low sperm concentration. Specifically, cryptozoospermia is an alteration of oligospermia.
When a semen sample contains less than 100,000 sperm per mL of ejaculate, it is considered a cryptozoospermic sample. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) reference values, a semen sample must contain more than 15 million sperm per mL of ejaculate.
If the man has cryptozoospermia, achieving a natural pregnancy will be difficult. Therefore, it is most likely that assisted reproduction techniques will be needed to be able to conceive.
