The AZF region is an area of the long arm of the Y chromosome that is divided into several subregions and contains different genes. Some of them are of great importance for male fertility.
Therefore, when microdeletions occur in the AZF region, azoospermia, oligozoospermia or any other alteration that has a consequence on male fertility may appear.
