Metrorragia
Metrorrhagia consists of a pathological alteration of the menstrual cycle since the woman presents abundant and/or prolonged bleeding.
There are two possible causes of this condition:
- Organic
- includes pregnancy complications such as miscarriages, implantation bleeding, etc. In addition, pelvic injuries and systemic diseases (obesity, thrombopenia, etc.) can also cause heavy bleeding in women, as can some oral contraceptives, anti-anxiety drugs or IUD use.
- Functional
- like the presence of tumors.
In order to diagnose the possible causes of this alteration of menstrual bleeding, it is necessary for the specialist to request a Pap test, an endometrial biopsy, an ultrasound scan, etc.
