Methods to prevent OHSS

OHSS is a complication of assisted reproduction treatments that, in the most serious cases, can require hospitalization and even compromise the life of the patient.

Therefore, there are certain strategies that allow the specialist to reduce the risk of women suffering from OHSS:

• Use GnRH agonists to trigger ovulation.
• Perform in vitro oocyte maturation (IVM), especially in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
• Vitrify embryos to avoid pregnancy in the same cycle.

Despite this, there are times when the specialist may determine that the best option is to cancel the cycle to avoid putting the patient at greater risk.
