When the ovarian follicles have reached a size between 16-18 mm, the doctor schedules the puncture to obtain the eggs for the reciprocal IVF. At this point, the woman must administer the hormone hCG to trigger the final maturation and release of the egg. It is important that no more than 36 hours pass from the time the hCG injection is administered until the procedure is performed.
The ovarian puncture is a simple gynecological process that lasts about 30 minutes and is painless since it is performed under mild sedation. In addition, the patient will be able to go home the same day of the intervention.
