Birth control pills are beneficial in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), as they help regulate the menstrual cycle. In addition, oral contraceptives prevent the absence of menstruation or amenorrhea and decrease hyperandrogenism.
Another benefit of birth control pills is that they reduce the risk of endometrial cancer by promoting endometrial detachment every 28 days. However, these effects are only present while taking the pills. Once they are discontinued, menstrual cycles will return to irregularity.
