The main reason for cancellation of artificial insemination (IUI) is related to the ovarian stimulation phase. If the ovaries respond excessively to hormonal drugs, multiple ovarian follicles will develop. However, the purpose of IUI is to have 1 or 2 ovarian follicles develop in order to avoid a possible multiple pregnancy and its consequences.
Similarly, if the woman does not respond adequately to ovarian stimulation, follicular development will not occur and, therefore, IUI will have to be cancelled.
