The various invasive prenatal tests carry an increased risk of miscarriage or fetal damage. Therefore, this type of prenatal studies is only recommended in exceptional situations such as the following:
- Abnormal result in the triple screening of the first trimester.
- Altered result in the fetal DNA test.
- Advanced maternal age.
- History of genetic diseases.
