Anovulation is the absence of ovulation in women. By not releasing the egg in each menstrual cycle, the woman will have difficulty getting pregnant spontaneously.
Some of the possible causes of anovulation in women are:
- Kallman's syndrome, a genetic alteration that causes problems in the migration of neurons from the olfactory epithelium.
- High intensity exercise.
- Abrupt changes in weight, such as anorexia or bulimia.
- Systemic diseases, such as kidney failure or liver disease, for example.
All these situations cause alterations in the functioning of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis.
