Uterine insufficiency, also called cervical incompetence, is characterized by a cervix that is shorter than normal or that is not kept closed.
This is one of the less frequent complications that can occur after conization. When performing a deep cone biopsy, muscle fibers may be damaged and the cervix cannot be kept closed. As a result, these women are at greater risk of miscarriage or premature birth.
