The main test for the diagnosis of cryptorchidism is palpation of the scrotal sac, the abdominal area and the inguinal canal. Its purpose is to search for undescended testicles.
If palpation does not locate the testicles, then ultrasound or even magnetic resonance imaging will be necessary. Sometimes a hormone determination and a karyotype can also provide information on the cause of the cryptorchidism.
