An ectopic or extrauterine pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg is blocked or delayed. However, there are certain factors that increase the risk of an ectopic pregnancy. Some of these are listed below: insertion of an IUD, presence of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), pelvic surgery, undergoing assisted reproduction treatment, or tubal reversal.
