When a woman visits a gynecologist because of pelvic pain, the first thing the specialist will do is a complete gynecological examination. In addition, this examination may be accompanied by vaginal ultrasound to perfectly observe all the internal structures of the female reproductive system.
If the gynecologist suspects endometriosis, he/she may request a blood test where the Ca-125 and Ca-19 biomarkers will be evaluated. However, these markers are not specific for endometriosis, although they do provide diagnostic information.
