Occasionally, specialists request a series of complementary tests to be sure that a patient has endometriosis. Especially, these additional tests are performed when it may be a deep infiltrative endometriosis.
Some of the complementary tests that will help in the diagnosis of this type of endometriosis are MRI, colonoscopy and cystoscopy. In addition, it is most likely that a laparoscopy has been performed previously, which is the fundamental test for the diagnosis of endometriosis.
In any case, laparoscopy, colonoscopy and cystoscopy should be performed when the patient is menstruating, since it facilitates the localization of the endometrial implants.
