Classification groups for the causes of prolonged anovulation

Anovulation is the absence of ovulation in women. Therefore, the release of the mature egg does not occur so that it can be fertilized by the sperm. There are multiple causes of anovulation in women, but they can be classified into three groups.

Group I refers to dysfunctions of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis such as, for example, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism or Kallman's syndrome.

Group II causes of anovulation include alterations in hormone secretion, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) or hyperprolactinemia.

Finally, group III of the causes of anovulation is the case of early menopause in women under 40 years of age.
