When fertility treatment and ovarian stimulation are used, it is important to minimise the risk of multiple pregnancies.
In the case of artificial insemination (AI), the aim is to obtain a maximum of two eggs. Otherwise, there is a risk of a multiple pregnancy, which would result in a multiple pregnancy:
- Probability of preterm birth.
- Fetal transfusion syndrome.
- Low birth weight.
- Gestational diabetes in the mother-to-be.
- High blood pressure or pre-eclampsia.
