Hyperprolactinemia is an endocrine pathology that consists of an increase in blood prolactin levels. The most common cause of hyperprolactinemia is the presence of tumors in the pituitary gland.
These tumor masses that appear in the pituitary gland or hypophysis are what is known as a prolactinoma. Their presence causes a decrease in the levels of hormones such as FSH and LH, but increases prolactin levels. For all these reasons, women with hyperprolactinemia may experience anovulation, that is, the absence of ovulation.
