Conventional IVF and ICSI are two different techniques to carry out the fertilization of the egg and the sperm in the laboratory. However, the whole process is similar. The woman will start with the administration of hormonal medication to stimulate her ovaries. When the ovarian follicles reach an adequate size, follicular puncture will be performed to obtain the eggs.
These oocytes will be fertilized in the laboratory, either conventionally or by ICSI, and the embryos will remain in culture for 3–5 days. The final step of IVF is the embryo transfer.
