Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a group of inflammatory processes that affect the ovaries, fallopian tubes and/or uterus. It is important to diagnose any PID as early as possible to avoid complications in the future. However, sometimes, chronic pelvic pain or fertility problems may arise among others.
In addition, if the fallopian tubes are affected, there is an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy. PID also increases the likelihood of preterm delivery and neonatal complications.
