The way to prevent possible pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is the same as the way to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Therefore, it is important to maintain safe sex by using barrier contraceptives such as condoms. In addition, it is essential to reduce the number of sexual partners to reduce the risk.
If the woman already has PID, then secondary prevention measures should be followed. Douching is also not indicated.
