The expectant management of an ectopic pregnancy could be performed when this type of pregnancy is diagnosed early, in a woman who lacks symptoms and whose hCG hormone levels in the blood are less than 1000 mIU/ml and are decreasing.
Expectant management consists of monitoring to ensure that the pregnancy ends spontaneously, without any intervention. Therefore, expectant management requires the woman to undergo blood tests to determine hCG hormone levels and serial ultrasounds.
