Although tubal ligation has many advantages as a permanent method of contraception, it also has some disadvantages:
- Problems associated with anesthesia depending on the procedure by which the tubes are tied.
- Hemorrhages.
- Infections.
- Increases the risk of extrauterine or ectopic pregnancy.
In addition, tubal ligation prevents pregnancy, but not the transmission of a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
