Uterine polyps and fertility

When a woman has an endometrial polyp, it can cause problems in becoming pregnant. In addition, if the woman has no apparent symptoms, she may not be aware of the polyp until she goes for a gynecologic check-up or sees a fertility specialist because she is not getting pregnant.

These masses of endometrial tissue protruding through the uterine cavity may prevent embryo implantation or cause miscarriages. The mechanism by which polyps have this effect on a woman's fertility is unknown.
