The most common causes of infection after childbirth are the following:
- Puerperal endometritis: infection of the endometrium due to failure to expel the placenta during childbirth.
- Infection of the surgical wound: episiotomy or cesarean section abdominal incision.
- Puerperal mastitis: breast infection due to lactation.
